Partay

Thanks again to all you kind New Yorkers who helped us celebrate the record last night. Fun, fun times!

And of course, it wouldn't have been the same without the comedic stylings of Mr. Marc Ellenbogen. We gotta bring him on tour...

Accident free for 165 days!

Below: Tim shows off the reason we had such a safe trip. Thanks to our friend Tomo for the hot orange sticker, blessed specifically for safe travels by Shinto monks on a mountaintop outside Tokyo. The best part is, the monks are some savvy dudes because the blessing apparently expires in one year from date of purchase.

Dirty South

Yesterday in DC was made especially educational with a trip to the
Smithsonian Museum of American History. Saw Lincoln's hat, Julia
Childs's kitchen and a 1986 Dodge Caravan, which used to be Tim's car and is now apparently a piece of history.

Today was an awesome reunion with NC BBQ (above), with a second data point for comparing to our last experience. This evening we drove through the woods to Allen and Son, an institution on par with Skylight Inn from back in April. Gotta say, I think we all re-awarded our blue ribbon.

And of course, tonight was our last (of three) shows with Sian Alice Group. Much love all around. video

Aftershow

Last night in Baltimore we were greeted with the pleasant surprise
that Mr. K Recs himself, Calvin Johnson was in the house, working the
merch table for Chain and the Gang. Watching him Richard Simmons to
the beat in his jean shorts was something else. (I also got to ask for
an apology for when he ridiculed me in front of an audience in Tokyo
years ago...)

But THEN, the club told informed us that our bracelets actually also
gave us access to the source of the crazy bass we heard coming through
the wall all night: the Mos Def and Talib Kweli show next door. I
don't think we ever thought we'd ever find ourselves backstage at a
hip hop show in Baltimore.

Good times.

Record's out!

Lake Effect was just released digitally this week. Loyal readers will recall the good times we had recording it at Seaside Lounge in Brooklyn with our buddy Aaron Prellwitz under a boozy haze last winter.

Limited edition white vinyl coming soon from the mighty Sabotage Records, and we'll also have CDs courtesy of Expect Candy available at the release party:

Aw, rats

Tonight we walked into the rehearsal space and thought it smelled like dirty diapers–well, I did. Tim somehow knew it was something not-living. We played for a hour or so until Tim jumped up, exclaiming "I thought it was one of my socks or something!"

It took its last breath right under the drum kit. :-(
